We strongly believe that when things are done with dedication and a profound love for our earth and its people, the results will be, without a doubt, the most authentic expression of this precious heritage we call the Rosario Valley.
The values that inspire us every day, and are the essential pillars of our winery, are as follow:
We believe in generosity, comprehensive project development, and educating people.
We are constantly searching for creativity, improvement and product development with an eye to the future.
We work with perseverance, leadership, and determination in all business areas.
We are commited to the environment, the community, the people, and to our love for the earth.
“Matetic takes us back to pioneers gazing at new horizons, this being an essential component of the luggage that the family’s first generations brought from Croatia and Asturias, the sustenance of this project in the Valley, which does not only focus on the creation of wines, but also on the rescue of traditions and identity.”
“Memory is built with infinite fragments from which a unique world appears, crowded with family images to be preserved and treasured. That is what the Valley is. Living memory of life and existence.”

Jorge Matetic-Celtinja, the first generation of the family in Chile, arrived in Punta Arenas from the ancient port of Fiume in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a town now known as Rijeka in modern-day Croatia.
The first vineyards were planted in the Rosario Valley, located between the coastal valleys of Casablanca and San Antonio. It’s the beginning of the elaboration of cool-climate wines, becoming pioneers in the growing of Syrah in this zone, and focusing on producing wines of the highest quality.
The first harvest, corresponding to the EQ line of wines, with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. The 2001 EQ Syrah became Chile’s first cool-climate Syrah.
The beginning of the transition of our vineyard to organic and biodynamic agriculture, with the help of the renowned consultant from California, Alan York.
Viña Matetic’s winery was built, using modern architecture, gravitational flow, and natural materials like wood and stone from the zone.
Our Boutique Hotel “La Casona” was opened, giving birth to a new stage of our Turism services at Matetic Vineyards.
We received our Organic Certification and began working with biodynamic agriculture.
Our 2004 EQ Syrah was chosen as one of the Top 100 wines of the year in the influential Wine Spectator magazine. It was the first Chilean Syrah ever to make it onto the list.
Wine & Spirits magazine selected Matetic Vineyards as one of the Top 100 wineries of the year. We were delighted to achieve this accolade again in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
Demeter granted all of our vineyards, 160 hectares, biodynamic certification.
Our 2012 EQ Syrah received the IWC Biodynamic Award at the International Wine Challenge in London.
James Suckling awarded our 2012 Matetic Syrah 97 points and placed it on his list of the Top 100 wines of the world.
The 2013 Matetic Syrah was named the Best Red Wine of the Year by international critic Tim Atkin, who awarded it 98 points.
